Would You Believe…Unlimited Cloud Storage?

August 1, 2014

You’re strong enough, of course.

The average concern or worry or burden that we carry about a situation is not all that heavy. It’s like one of those five or six pound exercise balls that is not too much of a load…unless you carry it too long.

Most of us tend to collect those things – the worries and burdens and such – and keep carrying them until things start getting really, really heavy. Then we either cry out to God for help with the load or we collapse beneath the weight.

We’re kind of like a computer that keeps this cache of data in its active memory and gets slower and slower. When you restart the computer, it empties that cache and starts over.

What we fail to realize is that, as followers of Jesus, we have this sort of unlimited cloud storage for our burdens and worries. We have been instructed to bring them to Jesus – to upload them, if you will.

In Matthew 11, we read a very sweeping and personal invitation from Jesus:

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28-30‬)

He invites us to an exchange – His easy yoke and light burden for our lonely and heavy load of cares.

When we use cloud storage for our devices, we don’t have to carry that data on the device itself – because it’s accessible. We don’t have to be concerned with losing it or keeping track of it.

When we upload our burdens to Jesus, He carries it and we don’t have to – He’s got it.

My question for you: what small thing have you been carrying around so long that it seems so very heavy?
