Glad

June 24, 2010

I found myself staring at these words this morning with a deep sense of satisfaction welling up in my heart:

Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”  The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad.  (Psalm 126:2-3)

Laughter is a common sound in our home – particularly around the dinner table.  Though it’s much more difficult these days to get everyone around the table at once (not to mention putting enough on it to feed them all), when we do accomplish it, the times are rich indeed.  I don’t know where they get it, but they’re a funny bunch of people.

This week I have particularly missed the youngest two boys as they’ve been away at camp.  We’ve had a couple of our nieces with us instead (which throws the normal hormonal balance of a mostly-male household all out of whack) and they have been fun too.  But the fact that I am so richly blessed does not escape me.

I don’t know why God has blessed us so.  I cannot fathom why He would choose to lavish such riches upon me, but I know that He has.

And yet, perhaps I am beginning to understand why; for the same reason I loaded a couple of little girls into the car and made a snow cone run – to make them glad.  He has done great things for us.  Look at the picture below and see the same thing they said about Israel, “The Lord has done great things for them.”

And we are glad.

So, deeply and profoundly glad.
